Entrepreneurs, small business owners and startups can all make a powerful contribution to their website's SEO (Search engine optimization) with one easy, but ingenious, change to their business' brand.

You don't even have to be an SEO expert to implement it, although a familiarity with keyword research will help a bit.

To start with, you are going to need to have the Google Keyword tool handy, so make sure you can access that and that you know roughly how to use it.

Bloggeting: Something every business person should know

One of the greatest business playing field levelers is the ability for small business to compete on the global stage with anyone and everyone- via the Internet. What's more, in order to outcompete even the largest websites, all you need to do is create content that is more useful, engaging, relevant and so on. It's not as difficult as you might think.

By writing a great blog that, over time, attracts readers and potential customers, you are increasing the "reach" of your marketing campaigns. Some of the biggest blog sites have hundreds of thousands of readers. Any small business owner should be licking his/her lips at the prospect of being able to market to that many "opt-in" readers.

Drive traffic with effective blogging

The most effective bloggers, the ones who get paid by businesses to write their content, drive traffic, and the ones who people listen to aren't necessarily the best writers.

In fact, more often than not they aren't even the most knowledgable about their topic. What they are good at, is being creative about what they blog about and how they present that information in an exciting and engaging way. There's an art to it, without a doubt.

Ever walked down the street and seen one restaurant (let's call it McA) packed to the brim and the next one completely empty? Ever wonder if it is a result of McA being utterly and completely superior to its neighbor?

The chances are, it's not! More likely, it is a trait of humans in general that I call "Empty Restaurant Syndrome" or ERS that is at the heart of the matter.

If "retweet" sounds like something Elmer Fudd would say while hunting wabbit, then it's probably a good idea you fix your eyeballs on this article.

Garnering online publicity for small businesses can be a laborious task, and, one that often seems to provide a poor ROI (Return on Investment) - at least initially.

There are a number of important points to keep in mind for any startup looking to increase its traffic and reach by using inbound marketing techniques - i.e. not paying for disruptive advertising.

In the article entitled "Viral content using reach bait" I introduced the concept of "reach baiting" and compared it to link baiting.

In a nutshell, reach baiting and link baiting are more or less the same thing, but with one crucial difference. Whereas link baiting is designed to attract tonnes of backlinks and responses from anyone and everyone who might come across the post, reach baiting is specifically designed to leverage the reach of a particular site or blogger.

How to get your first 1000 online customers

The first time I started an online business I spent the vast majority of my time actually creating the service.

I spent countless hours tweaking the interface, upgrading minor flaws and generally fussing around ensuring that every little thing was perfect.

It's good to be a perfectionist; but not if you want to make money online.

I think the term "business" is misleading when it comes to the Internet. What people mean when they talk about an "Internet business" or an "online business" is marketing.

There are plenty of things that almost all succesful bloggers will advise you to do in order to rise to the top of search engine results pages (SERPs). More than likely you are bored to tears with being told to blog regularly, be useful, be engaging and interesting, and so on.

This is all really good advice, and I have to agree with it. However, there are a lot of good bloggers out there that do all these things (and more), so these days you have to find something new and innovative to give your blog the edge.

How black holes relate to Internet marketing

Modern Internet marketing techniques try to focus on making websites popular by becoming the center of their own community - in the same way that a black hole forms the center of its own galactic community of planets and stars.

This advances on the more traditional hit and miss method that is akin to a game of baseball where pitches are like customers visiting the site. If the batter hits the ball he makes a once-off sale and if he misses, the ball whizzes by never to return. Obviously not ideal in today's competitive market where repeat business is vitally important.
